Values lists have always left me wanting more. They look tasty enough, in a vanilla ice-cream sort of way, but don’t quite do the job they are supposed to do.
Values should help people know how to behave. They should make decision-making easier. If that’s what you want them to do, cut to the chase. Figure out who your stars are, identify what behaviors they have in common, and start hiring people who you think will do the same.
