Too many organizations promote high-performing employees to management roles without teaching them how to be a manager. This article identifies three foundational skills every manager needs to learn. Sounds to me like a good place to start when developing your new manager training program.
I’ve been teaching leadership skills for 25 years. I agree that these are the big three:
- Time Management
Related to the last one, I might add “dealing with people who aren’t meeting performance or behavioral expectations.” If your new managers can do all that, the odds are in their favor that they will succeed in their leadership role.
